Robert graduated from the University of Richmond in 2000 with a degree in Speech Communication (Rhetoric and Communication Studies). After briefly working in outside sales, Robert returned to school to earn his law degree in 2006 from Chicago-Kent College of Law.
During law school, Robert was a member of both Chicago-Kent’s nationally recognized Trial Advocacy Team and the Moot Court Honor Society. He also interned for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office and the United States Attorney’s Office, where he assisted with the prosecution of former Governor George Ryan.
After graduation, Robert began his legal career with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office. During his 6 plus years as a prosecutor, he served in every aspect of criminal prosecution, from traffic offenses to homicides and Class X Felonies. After he left the office in 2013, Robert went into private practice where he has handled a wide range of matters including all areas of criminal defense, family law, and general civil litigation. In 2015, he and his family moved to Munich, Germany where they lived for 3 years. Upon return to the area, Robert returned to private practice.
Robert currently serves his community as a member of the Barrington Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals and previously served as a member of the Board of Trustees from 2011-2015. Robert has continued his education by working toward his Master of Arts at DePaul University’s Public Relations and Advertising program.
Robert is also contracted with McHenry County to represent criminal defendants in cases in which the Public Defender's Office has a conflict. He is a Special Appointed Counsel (formerly called Special Public Defender), chosen by the Circuit Judges of the county to serve in that capacity due to his experience and qualifications.
Robert L. Windon is of counsel to The Law Office of Hiera & Dennison, LLC. He began his relationship with HD Law in April of 2020, and practices in the areas of Criminal Defense and Family Law. Robert also maintains his own practice, Windon Strategies, LLC, where he focuses on Election & Campaign Law, Communication Law, and Zoning & Land Us
